How to test ‘elevators’?

Best way to write test case is to categorize them such that it can be applied to the given situation. For instance, if I take an example of ‘Lift aka Elevators‘ then what all tests we can actually perform on lift could be like this:

  • Functional Tests
  1. Lift should move in upward direction when number is pressed greater than the floor number it is presently on..
  2. Lift should move in downward direction when number is pressed lesser than the floor number it is presently on.
  3. Lift when empty, should not move.
  • Usability Tests
  1. Lift should have all numbers starting from basement to the top floor of the building.
  2. Lift should have close and open button which can be pressed while each stop.
  3. Each time lift gets stopped on any floor then it shall display the number of floor on LED display.
  4. Each time lift gets stopped on any floor then it shall announce the number of floor.
  5. Lift’s should be made such that it user can get comfortably stand while the movement.
  6. Lift should proper display stating the maximum and minimum range or weight and people allowed in it.
  • Load Tests
  1. Lift should allow weight less than 10kgs at a time.
  2. Lift should not allow weight more than 100kgs at a time.
  • Stress Tests
  1. Lift should not bear load above 1000kgs
  2. Lift should not bear load less than 20kgs.
  • Performance Tests
  1. When put in high frequency energy, no wire should get burn
  2. When put in low frequency energy, no wire should get burn
  3. When put in various cold and hot temperature, Lift’s speed should not get effective.
  4. Lift’s while moving should not create noise.
  • Security Tests
  1. When lifts all buttons are pressed multiple times then lift should start moving to the lowest floor.
  2. When danger button is pressed in lift then lift should get open on the nearest floor in the direction it is moving in.
  3. Lift should have Fan and Phone button for user security.
